‘It’s been quite some time since we’ve attended The Great Taste of the Midwest…glad to be back. In fact, it’s been such a long time (2002), I forgot how delicious it is. First off, I want to thank the organizers and volunteers – TOP NOTCH. We were basically cold-called to attend. I can’t, and never would turn down such an honor of an invitation. Heat and humidity were peaked out, as were the mosquitoes. Who cares! The landscape, beer, and untouchable Midwest vibe certainly wiped out the little quirks. We had a few Ohio breweries in attendance. Buckeye, Ohio Brewing, Great Lakes, Fat Head’s, and Sam Adams (Cinci). 100+ breweries in attendance. What I suggest is this. Attend next year, bring your bike, and enjoy the day on Sunday. The city is amazing. Great restaurants. The breakfast place near the Capitol is killer. Great people. Thank you ‘Great Taste’ and Madison, WI. More more thing, the farmers market on Saturday is to die for, I’ve never seen anything like it – hard core, Garin.’

Hot, sunny, and windy – rain held off. Large lines, volleyball, The Breakfast Club took the stage North. The word is that most breweries kicked their beer before the 5pm closing mark. Buckeye kicked Bling Bling, Wheat Cloud and Madison by around 4pm. Will have a couple video posts in the near future. One more indication that Cleveland is evolving even more than one thought in the quest for quality beer.

At Scene AleFest this Saturday the 24th. First time attending. Bringing some lighter stuff. Also, it’s been a while, but we are attending the 24th annual Great Taste of the Midwest in Madsion, WI, Saturday, August 14th 2010. ZATEK 2010, Aquarius, Hippie IPA (cask) and Bling Bling going to Wisconsin.

Both new offerings will be available at better bottle shops. Look for Aquarius at BEER ENGINE and Whole Foods Cedar for now.

Last year Buckeye released a commemorative ale for CBW 2010. The style was an Indian Brown Ale. This year we are in the planning stages of releasing an India Black Ale, or Black IPA. The style has been added to the GABF list this year. The label will look similar to last years incorporating the CBW logo. We plan on brewing much more than last year. Our intention is to get the beer to as many accounts as possible that are participating in CBW. We’ll keep posted on the release date and recipe design.

Federal label approval is complete. We are waiting on State label approval. These are both strong brews that of course are short runs. As if you haven’t heard that one before. Really though. 100 and or so cases per brand. ZATEK 2010 will be in a 22oz silk-screened bottle. Aquarius will be in a 22oz bottle with a full color label. ZATEK 2010 is silky, smooth, and layered in flavor. The alcohol (10+) is extremely well hidden. We tend to think of it as and English-style Imperial Stout. It doesn’t have any piny or citrus hop flavor as typical American versions do. Aquarius on the other hand, fits perfectly into that ‘balls to the wall’ classic American hop flavor and aroma. It is 9+ ABV. The hop charge throughout is SUMMIT and Amarillo. The Aquarius is something I’m certain Buckeye will release again. It is by far the most resiny peep in our fleet. We want to give a special thanks to ‘Quasar’, ‘Bling Bling’, and ‘ZATEK’ for helping brew Aquarius. As soon as we get the green light we will let you know. Look for them at boutique ‘bottle shops’ throughout Ohio. Over and out.
